Strengthening the Digital Backbone Artificial Intelligence sustaining Europe's Future

AI has already begun to redefine the mobility landscape. From autonomous vehicles to smart traffic management systems, AI-powered solutions will become a key factor for improving efficiency, safety, and accessibility. As highlighted by the European Commission, "AI can contribute to safer roads, reduce traffic congestion, and lower emissions, making transport more sustainable and efficient" (European Commission, 2023). This vision is being supported by significant investments in AI research and development, as outlined in the European Commission's AI strategy, which aims to position Europe as a global leader in trustworthy AI.

To drive innovation, Europe is also establishing cutting-edge AI factories collaborative research and innovation hubs that bring together academia, industry, and policymakers to accelerate the development of AI technologies. These AI factories are not only fostering breakthroughs in a broad range of applications, but also ensuring that AI systems are developed responsibly, in line with Europe's ethical AI guidelines.

The next DRIVEN by DATA event will be organized in collaboration with the Swedish AI Factory MIMER. The event will start with an insightful introduction to AI factories and the Swedish approach by MIMER. Afterwards, guest speakers involved in two inspiring projects will share insights into examples of AI innovations, approaches, achievements, and challenges encountered in their work.

About “DRIVEN by DATA"

The workshop series "Data Innovations for Smart Mobility in Europe" was initiated in 2021 by the German Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV). The series, now called DRIVEN by DATA, aims to foster knowledge exchange and networking between stakeholders from the political sphere, business, user groups and research communities in Germany and abroad. DRIVEN by DATA is motivated by the opportunities data can provide to mobility systems in Europe. Data use can be applied in all parts and stages of the system, ranging from more user-centric, environment-friendly and inclusive mobility planning to more efficient use of resources and increased resilience systems. In this series, speakers from all around Europe will give an overview of their projects’ activities, ideas and challenges, serving as inspiration for discussions with participants. The intention is to keep it simple and straightforward, further providing a platform to knowledge exchange and the creation of new partnerships between European stakeholders.
